I'm not much of a writer, so I'm not exactly sure where to begin this post.  Perhaps it's best just to start.

2012 was a huge learning year for me.  I made some incredible strides in my business.  I also made a lot, and I do mean A LOT, of very large mistakes.  Mistakes, I'm sure, lost me a few clients.  Mistakes that cost me a lot of money.  Mistakes that caused me to lose some friends.  Mistakes that cost my family.

I'm sure I don't need to go into specifics of these mistakes, but the basis is:  I got too busy for my own good and, thus, I over-promised and under-delivered in every relationship in my life.

At the end of last month, I took some time to self-reflect and re-priortize and organize my life.  I found all that working I was doing was paying (literally) only for me to keep on working as much I was.  That same day, I came across this quote (and, if you know me, you know I'm a quote-fanatic!):

What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

Whoa.  Powerful, isn't it?  Read it again:  What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

What I want to do is exchange my days for days spent with my husband; days with my kids; days making my house a home; days with my friends; days spent traveling; days spent reading; days spent cooking wonderful meals; days spent photographing for myself; days spent living a lot less stressed.

So, with that, in 2013, I will be taking one session per week.  I am currently booking through May and am already about 1/4 of the way full.  (That means contact me ASAP for a session!) This year, I will say "no," not because I want to, but because I have to.

I want to spend more time with the sessions I do take and make them incredible.  I want to make each session an experience, and a great one at that!  I'm going to do a whole lot less posing and a whole lot more moving, capturing that genuine emotion.  I'm going to worry less about the subject looking at the camera, and more about the expression on their face.

Check out some of my favorite images from 2012.  These sessions are those I wish to replicate.  [note:  I started going through sessions in alphabetical order and came out with over 50 images before I made it 1/4 of the way through all of them.  These are not ALL of my favorites.  Now I'm inspired to do a faves of 2012 post!]

Lots of love to you all!  Cheers to a new year!

I'm getting back to blogging, folks!  (How many times have you heard me say that?!)  I really am, though; I'm not sure how long facebook business pages are going to last and since that is the one tool I've used to build my business, that makes me a wee bit nervous.  Anyway, getting back to good 'ole fashioned bloggin'!

Brandy, Devon and their kiddos met me for their session on a beautiful late-September evening near my home.  The session got started a bit late; the sun was droppin' like it was hot and Brandy & I were both nervous to lose that gorgeous glow from it.

Well, lose anything we did not.  They got out of the car and I think I jumped up & down with excitement with how great they looked.  Brandy has already received comments on my facebook page on her awesome her hair is (Anna at The Refinery in Rockbrook Village in Omaha is partly responsible for that - just throwin' that out there!).  Anyway, their outfits were everything I could have hoped for: perfect colors, coordination, lots of layers and they fit just right.

We rocked this session in about 20 minutes flat and I couldn't be any more in love with them.

Check it!
